The best 2 player games to play on one keyboard are Fireboy and Watergirl for working together, Basket Random and Volley Random for quick laughs, Gun Mayhem and Stickman Duel for head-to-head fights, Basket Bros for sports, Boxhead 2Play Rooms for zombie co-op and Slope 2 Player for racing. All eight are free, run in your web browser and need no download or account. One person uses the arrow keys and the other uses W, A, S and D.
We picked games that really work with two people on one laptop or Chromebook: each one has a proper two-player mode, keeps both players' keys on opposite sides of the keyboard, and loaded and played in our November 2026 browser test. Here's what each one is like, which keys to use and how to win.

1. Fireboy and Watergirl: the best co-op game for two
Fireboy and Watergirl in the Forest Temple, by Oslo Albet, is the game most people mean when they search for two-player games on one computer. You each control one character and need to get both of them to their exit doors. Fireboy can walk through lava but not water, and Watergirl can walk through water but not lava. Green goo stops both of them.
Controls: Watergirl moves with W, A and D, and Fireboy with the arrow keys.
How to win: Talk before you move. Most levels have levers, buttons and lifts that only work if one player holds something down while the other goes through, so decide who goes first. Collect the red gems with Fireboy and the blue gems with Watergirl for a better rank at the end of each level.
When you've finished the Forest Temple, carry on with Fireboy and Watergirl 2: Light Temple, which adds mirrors and light beams to the puzzles. There are more games in the series further down.
2. Basket Random: the funniest one-button game
Basket Random is two-on-two basketball with floppy, wobbly players. Each player has a single key, and the court, the ball and even gravity change every round, so no two points play the same. It's made by RHM Interactive, the studio behind the whole "Random" series.
Controls: Player one presses W and player two presses the up arrow, to jump and swing your arms.
How to win: Timing matters more than pressing fast. Wait for the ball to come close before you jump, and you'll knock it toward the hoop instead of away from it. The first to five points wins.
3. Gun Mayhem: the best for up to four players
Gun Mayhem, by Kevin Gu and Arvin Eksiri, is a platform shooter where the goal isn't to shoot your friend down but to knock them off the map. Every gun pushes the other player back, so a few good hits send them flying off the edge.
Controls: Player one uses the arrow keys to move, [ to shoot and ] to throw a bomb. Player two uses W, A, S and D, with T to shoot and Y to bomb. Two more players can join on the number pad, so it works as a four-player game too.
How to win: Stay near the middle of the map, and jump when you see your opponent line up a shot. Recoil pushes you as well, so stop shooting when you're near an edge.
4. Basket Bros: the best sports game for two
Basket Bros is a fast one-on-one basketball game from Blue Wizard Digital, with big dunks, blocks and special moves. Choose the two-player mode on the start screen to play on the same computer.
Controls: WASD and G for one player, and the arrow keys and L for the other.
How to win: Don't just shoot from where you are. Run past your opponent first, because close shots go in far more often, and jump to block when they shoot.
5. Boxhead 2Play Rooms: the best zombie co-op
Boxhead 2Play Rooms, by Sean Cooper, puts two players in a top-down arena full of zombies and devils. Fight back to back in co-op, or turn on each other in versus mode.
Controls: Player one moves with the arrow keys, shoots with / and switches weapons with . and ,. Player two moves with W, A, S and D, shoots with Space and switches weapons with Q and E.
How to win: Stay together and face opposite ways, so nothing reaches either of you from behind. Hits in a row build a combo that unlocks stronger weapons, so don't waste ammo shooting into empty space.
6. Stickman Duel: the best quick fighting game
Stickman Duel is a one-on-one stickman fight with ragdoll physics and weapons that drop into the arena. Rounds last seconds, which makes it perfect for "best of five" contests.
Controls: Player one uses W, A, S and D, and player two uses the arrow keys.
How to win: Grab a weapon first, but don't run straight at your opponent. Let them come to you, then hit back, because ragdoll stickmen are easy to knock off balance as they move in.
7. Volley Random: the best for a five-minute break
Volley Random is the volleyball game in RHM Interactive's Random series. It has the same one-key controls as Basket Random, with a net in the middle and random changes every round.
Controls: Player one presses W and player two presses the up arrow.
How to win: Stay under the ball and let it drop a little before you jump. Hitting it late sends it over the net at a steeper angle that's harder to return.
8. Slope 2 Player: the best racing game for two
Slope 2 Player takes the classic Slope and puts two balls on the same speeding track. Whoever stays on the course longest wins the round.
Controls: One player steers with A and D, and the other with the left and right arrow keys.
How to win: Make small taps instead of holding a key down. The ball speeds up the longer you survive, so small corrections keep you on the track while your opponent oversteers.

Playing with a friend on a different computer
If you're not sitting at the same keyboard, these two let you play together online from separate computers:
- Smash Karts is a kart battle game from Tall Team. Drive with the arrow keys or W, A, S and D, pick up weapons from the boxes on the track and press Space to fire. Create a private match and send the code to your friend.
- 1v1.LOL is a third-person building and shooting game. Move with W, A, S and D, aim with the mouse, and build walls and ramps with Z, X, C and V. Use the party feature to play against or alongside a friend.
Tips for playing two-player games on one keyboard
- Use a full-size keyboard if you can. On a small laptop your hands will be right next to each other. A plug-in USB keyboard gives the second player more room.
- Press Fullscreen. On every game page on ArcadeWebsite, the Fullscreen button under the game makes it bigger and stops either of you clicking outside it by accident.
- Some keyboards only register a few keys at once. If one player's key sometimes stops working when you both press at the same time, it's the keyboard, not the game. Pick a game with fewer keys, like the Random games, which only need one key each.
- Click the game before you start. Your keys only reach the game once you've clicked inside it.
